About Batman

The Batman franchise has lived across DC Comics, Warner Bros. films, television, and games for more than 80 years. From Tim Burton's 1989 reboot through Matt Reeves' 2022 take, Batman's promotional materials reach for the same kind of heavy, condensed display lockup — letterforms tall and tight enough to feel like skyline silhouettes in their own right. That visual identity is one of the most recognisable in superhero design.

Different eras of the franchise have leaned into different cuts of that condensed-display look: the 1989 Burton wordmark used a custom drawing, the Christopher Nolan trilogy (2005–2012) shifted to a tighter, more industrial face, and Matt Reeves' 2022 reboot pulled the same gestures into a colder, more architectural register. The constant across all of them is the silhouette: tall, narrow, and unmistakably Batman from a block away.

What font does Batman use?

Batman uses Anton, designed by Vernon Adams and distributed via Google Fonts under the SIL Open Font License. A free, open-source heavy condensed sans.

On this page, Lipi offers a generated lookalike of the font used in Batman — ready to download instantly with a commercial license, no third-party purchase required.

Where this style works

Heavy condensed sans-serifs like this are the workhorse of action and sports identity work — superhero film posters, comic-book cover lockups, video-game title cards, sports broadcasting graphics, action-game UI, automotive and energy-drink branding, and any layout that wants to read as forceful at a glance. The cramped horizontal proportions make the wordmark dominate even at small thumbnail sizes — exactly the property that has kept this style in heavy rotation for superhero franchises.
