About Stranger Things

Stranger Things is the Netflix science-fiction horror series created by the Duffer Brothers, set in 1980s Hawkins, Indiana, and following a group of children who encounter supernatural forces from a parallel dimension. Across four seasons since 2016 it has become one of Netflix's flagship originals. The show's title card uses a heavy retro-display serif, the kind of chunky, high-x-height bookjacket lettering that defined paperback horror in the era the show recreates.

The Stranger Things title lockup deliberately echoes the cover typography of Stephen King and Peter Straub paperbacks from the late 1970s and early 1980s, and is rendered in the same red channel-letter glow that haunts the show's title sequence. That typographic period-piece move helped position the series as a love letter to its source material, and the same retro-display serif register has since spread across competing nostalgia-horror franchises.
